Local SEO services cost about $420 to $2,800 a month in 2026 with an offshore partner company, plus a one-time setup of $1,000 to $2,000 for a single location. US agencies charge more. Industry roundups put most local SEO plans between $100 and $3,000 a month, at $50 to $100 an hour[1]. A one-location clinic, for example, pays about $630 a month in our worked budget.

This guide is for the person who signs the quote: a clinic owner, a franchise manager or a marketing lead at a service business. You'll see what local SEO work includes, how agencies price it, what each business type should budget, a worked year-one plan and the numbers that show whether it's working.

Key takeaways

  • Most single-location businesses pay $420 to $700 a month with an offshore partner company. Busy city markets and multi-location brands pay $875 to $2,800.
  • Setup is a separate cost. Expect about 44 hours, or $1,540 at $35 an hour, to fix your Google Business Profile, listings and location pages.
  • The same work costs about three times more at US rates. Our clinic plan is $9,100 in year one offshore and about $26,000 at $100 an hour.
  • Pay for actions, not rankings alone. Track calls, direction requests, form leads and map positions across your area each month.
  • Walk away from anyone who offers fake reviews, keyword-stuffed business names or listings at addresses you don't staff. Google removes them.

How Much Do Local SEO Services Cost in 2026?

Local SEO services cost in 2026 depends on three things: how many locations you have, how crowded your market is and how much setup work your listings need. A dentist in a small town needs far less work than a law firm competing in a big city.

WebFX's survey of 250 US marketing professionals found that local SEO usually costs $500 to $3,000 a month, with many small businesses paying around $1,000[2]. Our estimates below use an offshore partner rate of $35 an hour, which is why the low end starts lower.

Business typeHours a monthOffshore partner ($35/h)US agency rate ($100/h)
Single location, quiet market12 to 20$420 to $700$1,200 to $2,000
Single location, competitive city25 to 40$875 to $1,400$2,500 to $4,000
2 to 10 locations40 to 80$1,400 to $2,800$4,000 to $8,000
Franchise, 10+ locations80 to 200$2,800 to $7,000$8,000 to $20,000

These are monthly fees for ongoing work. They don't include the first-month setup, paid ads or new website pages built from scratch.

Local SEO services cost per month by business type in 2026 at offshore partner rates: single location in a quiet market $420 to $700, competitive city $875 to $1,400, 2 to 10 locations $1,400 to $2,800 and franchise with 10 or more locations $2,800 to $7,000

What Local SEO Services Include

A good local SEO plan has six parts. If a proposal is missing one, ask why. If it lists work you can't see in a report, ask how you'll check it.

ServiceWhat the partner doesSetup hoursMonthly hours
Audit and keyword planChecks your listings, site and rivals, and picks the searches that bring buyers81 to 2
Google Business ProfileSets categories, services, hours, photos and booking links, then posts updates62 to 4
Listings and citationsMakes your name, address and phone match across directories and maps122 to 4
Location and service pagesWrites or fixes one page per service area, with clear local details104 to 6
ReviewsSets up a polite way to ask happy customers and replies to every review42 to 3
Tracking and reportsSets up call tracking, link tags and a map position grid, then reports monthly42 to 3

Your Google Business Profile itself is free. You pay for the time it takes to set it up well and keep it active. Google says local results are based mainly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence[3]. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the searcher. Prominence is how well known you are, which reviews, links and mentions all feed.

Some local SEO work overlaps with general SEO. If you also need nationwide rankings, compare this guide with our guide to professional SEO services.

How Local SEO Agencies Price Their Work

Most local SEO partner companies use one of five pricing models. Each one suits a different buyer.

Pricing modelTypical priceBest forWatch out for
Monthly retainer$420 to $2,800 offshoreOngoing work for one or more locationsVague hours; ask for a task list
One-time setup or audit$1,000 to $2,000 per locationFixing a messy profile and listingsNo plan for keeping it fresh
Per location$150 to $400 per extra location a monthChains and franchisesCopy-paste pages for every town
Hourly$35 offshore, $50 to $100 in the USSmall fixes and adviceBills that grow without a cap
Pay per leadA fee per call or formBusinesses with clear lead valueDisputes over which leads count

Semrush's roundup of Backlinko, Ahrefs and WebFX research puts most plans between $100 and $3,000 a month and hourly rates at $50 to $100[1]. Plans under $300 a month rarely include more than profile posts and a report. That can still help a small shop in a quiet town, but it won't move a competitive market.

Ask every partner to show the hours behind the price. A plan that costs $1,000 a month should name roughly how many hours go to pages, listings, reviews and reporting.

What Do Local SEO Packages Include at Each Price?

Many partner companies sell local SEO as three packages. The names change from one agency to the next, but the work inside them is fairly standard. Use this table to check what your quote should cover at each price.

PackageOffshore price a monthHoursWhat you should get
Starter$420 to $70012 to 20Profile posts and photos, review replies, 5 to 10 listing fixes, a monthly report
Growth$875 to $1,40025 to 40Everything in Starter, plus one or two new local pages, local link outreach and a map position grid
Multi-location$1,400 to $2,80040 to 80Everything in Growth for each branch, plus shared templates, a branch-by-branch report and a monthly call

The biggest jump between packages is new content and links. A Starter plan keeps your profile active and tidy. It rarely adds the new pages and local mentions that lift you above a strong rival. If you're already in the top three on the map for your main searches, Starter may be enough. If you're not on the map at all, you'll likely need Growth for at least six months.

Ask the partner to show which tasks are fixed and which change each month. A good package lists the fixed tasks, then leaves a few hours for whatever the last report showed was needed.

Local SEO Cost by Industry

Competition differs a lot between industries. Our estimates below assume one location in a mid-sized city, at $35 an hour with an offshore partner company.

IndustryCompetitionHours a monthOffshore estimate
Restaurants and cafesMedium; reviews and photos matter most12 to 18$420 to $630
Salons and spasMedium12 to 20$420 to $700
Dental and medical clinicsHigh in cities18 to 30$630 to $1,050
Plumbers, electricians and other tradesHigh; many service areas20 to 35$700 to $1,225
Law firmsVery high30 to 50$1,050 to $1,750
Real estate agentsHigh20 to 35$700 to $1,225

Trades often need more hours because they serve many towns from one address. Google lets a service business hide its address and list service areas instead, but each area still needs proof that you work there, such as a page with real jobs and photos. Law firms and clinics face rivals who have spent on local SEO for years, so catching up takes longer.

What Drives the Cost of Local SEO?

Five factors move the price up or down:

  • Number of locations. Each location needs its own profile, listings, page and reviews. Expect $150 to $400 a month for each extra location.
  • Competition. A plumber in a small town may need a few hours a month. A personal injury lawyer in a large city may need 40.
  • Starting point. Duplicate listings, an old address or a suspended profile can add 10 to 30 hours of setup.
  • Website quality. Slow or thin pages hold back local rankings. Our website speed optimization guide explains what that work costs.
  • Content needs. Service area pages, blog posts and photos all take time. A content marketing agency may do this part instead.

Worked Example: Local SEO Budget for a One-Location Clinic

Here is a real-world plan for a dental clinic with one location in a mid-sized city. It has a Google Business Profile with some old details, 60 reviews and a basic website.

Setup task (first month)HoursOffshore ($35/h)US rate ($100/h)
Audit, keyword and competitor plan8$280$800
Google Business Profile clean-up6$210$600
Fix and build 40 listings12$420$1,200
Two service area pages and on-page fixes10$350$1,000
Review request process4$140$400
Call tracking and position grid baseline4$140$400
Setup total44$1,540$4,400
Monthly taskHoursOffshore ($35/h)US rate ($100/h)
Profile posts, photos and questions3$105$300
Review replies and requests3$105$300
Listings and local links4$140$400
One new or improved local page5$175$500
Report and call3$105$300
Monthly total18$630$1,800

Year one comes to about $9,100 with an offshore partner company ($1,540 setup plus 12 months at $630). At $100 an hour, the same plan costs about $26,000. Many clinics start with six months, then keep only the monthly tasks that bring calls.

Year-one local SEO budget for a one-location dental clinic: $1,540 setup plus $630 a month, about $9,100 with an offshore partner at $35 an hour versus about $26,000 at a US rate of $100 an hour

Local SEO Services Cost for Multi-Location Businesses

Chains and franchises pay more in total but less per location. Shared work, such as reports, templates and brand guidelines, is done once. The work that repeats is each location's profile, listings, page and reviews.

For a 10-location brand, a fair offshore plan is about $1,400 to $2,800 a month. That covers 40 to 80 hours. At US rates, expect $4,000 to $8,000.

Avoid plans that create one thin page per town with only the city name changed. Each location page should show the real address, staff, services and photos for that branch.

How to Measure Local SEO Results

Rankings are only part of the story. A good monthly report should answer one question: did more nearby customers contact you?

MetricWhere it comes fromWhat good looks like
Calls from your profileGoogle Business Profile performanceRising month on month
Direction requestsGoogle Business Profile performanceRising for walk-in businesses
Website visits from local searchAnalytics with tagged profile linksRising, with longer visits
Map positions across your areaA position grid toolTop three in more grid points
Review count and ratingYour profileSteady new reviews, 4.5 stars or higher
Leads and bookingsCall tracking and your booking systemMore booked jobs, not just clicks

Give local SEO three to six months before you judge it. Profile fixes often show results within weeks. New pages and links take longer. If nothing moves after six months, ask the partner what changed and what they would do differently.

If you also run search ads, track both channels together. Our Google Ads management cost guide explains how ad fees and budgets work alongside SEO.

Red Flags in a Local SEO Proposal

Google's guidelines set clear rules for business profiles. Your business name should match your real name, and you should only list locations where you serve customers in person or where staff work[4]. Breaking these rules can get a profile suspended.

  • Fake or paid reviews. They break Google's rules and can wipe out years of real reviews.
  • Keyword-stuffed business names. "Smile Dental Best Dentist Near Me" is not your business name.
  • Virtual offices as locations. A mailbox address is not a real location.
  • Guaranteed first place. No one controls Google's local results.
  • Locked accounts. You should own your profile, analytics and call tracking, not the agency.

For more warning signs that apply to any marketing partner, read our digital marketing agency red flags checklist.

Can You Do Local SEO Yourself?

Yes, for part of the work. A business owner can handle the basics in two to four hours a month. The harder parts, such as fixing old listings, building local links and writing pages that rank, take skill and tools that most owners don't have.

TaskDo it yourself?Why
Claim and fill in your Google Business ProfileYesFree, and you know your business best
Post updates and photosYesTakes about 30 minutes a week
Reply to reviewsYesCustomers like hearing from the owner
Fix duplicate and old listingsUsually hireSlow work that needs listing tools
Location and service pagesUsually hireNeeds SEO writing and site changes
Map position tracking and reportsHireNeeds paid tools to measure well

A mixed plan works well for many small businesses. You keep the profile, photos and review replies. The partner company does setup, listings, pages and reports. This can cut a Starter plan to 8 to 12 hours a month, or about $280 to $420 with an offshore partner.

How to Keep Local SEO Costs Down

  • Fix the basics first. A one-time setup with no monthly plan is enough for some small shops in quiet towns.
  • Share the easy work. Take on posts, photos and review replies yourself.
  • Start with your best service. Build pages for the one or two services that bring the most profit, then add more.
  • Review every three months. Drop the tasks that don't lead to calls or bookings.
  • Get several quotes. Prices for the same work can vary by two or three times.

Freelancer vs Local SEO Agency vs a Verified Partner on UpBusiness

You can hire local SEO help in three common ways. The right choice depends on how many locations you have and how much checking you want to do yourself.

FreelancerLocal SEO agencyVerified partner on UpBusiness
Typical monthly price$200 to $800$1,000 to $3,000 in the US$420 to $2,800 offshore
Who checks their claimsYou doYou doUpBusiness verifies documents and client work

Freelancers can be great value for a single shop. Agencies bring a team. A verified partner company gives you team cover at offshore rates, with business documents and client work checked before they appear on UpBusiness.

How to Choose a Local SEO Partner

Ask these questions before you sign:

  • Which tasks will you do each month, and how many hours go to each?
  • Will I own the Google Business Profile, analytics and call tracking?
  • Can you show a report from a similar business, with names hidden?
  • How do you ask for reviews, and how do you handle bad ones?
  • What will you do in months one, three and six?
  • Can I cancel with 30 days' notice?

Compare at least three quotes side by side. Line up the hours, tasks and reporting, not just the price. Our SEO agency pricing guide shows how wider SEO retainers compare, and our digital marketing cost guide covers ads, social and content budgets.

If your website needs work first, fix that before you pay for local SEO. A slow site or a redesign that lost rankings will hold back every other effort, and a focused landing page for each main service can lift calls quickly.

When you're ready, post your project on UpBusiness with your locations, services and budget, and we'll match you with verified SEO partner companies that do local work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most single-location businesses pay $420 to $700 a month with an offshore partner company, based on 12 to 20 hours at $35 an hour. Competitive city markets pay $875 to $1,400. US agencies usually charge $500 to $3,000 a month, according to a WebFX survey of 250 marketers. Always ask how many hours sit behind the monthly price.
Local SEO is usually worth it for businesses that serve nearby customers, such as clinics, trades, salons and law firms. A complete Google Business Profile, matching listings and steady reviews help you appear in the map results. Start with setup and three to six months of light monthly work, then keep paying only if calls, bookings or direction requests rise.
A full plan covers six parts: an audit and keyword plan, Google Business Profile setup and posts, consistent directory listings, local service pages, a review process and monthly tracking. Good partners also report calls, direction requests and map positions across your area. If a proposal leaves out reviews or tracking, ask why before you sign anything.
Profile fixes and listing clean-up can show results within a few weeks. New location pages, reviews and links usually take three to six months to lift your map positions and calls. Judge results at the six-month mark. If calls and bookings have not moved by then, ask your partner what they will change, or compare quotes from other partner companies.
Yes. Local SEO focuses on searches near a place, such as dentists in a city, and on the map results. It relies on your Google Business Profile, reviews and local listings. Regular SEO aims at nationwide or global searches and leans more on content and links. Many businesses need some of both, so ask partners to price them as separate tasks.
Multi-location businesses pay less per location because reports and templates are shared. A 10-location brand usually pays about $1,400 to $2,800 a month with an offshore partner company, or $4,000 to $8,000 at US rates. Each extra location typically adds $150 to $400 a month for its own profile, listings, page and review replies.
The cheapest route is a mixed plan. You keep your Google Business Profile, photos and review replies, which take about 30 minutes a week. A partner company handles setup, listing fixes, pages and reports. With an offshore partner at $35 an hour, that usually means 8 to 12 hours a month, or about $280 to $420, after a one-time setup.
You can appear on Google Maps with only a Business Profile, but a website helps a lot. Service pages give Google more proof of what you do and where you work, and they turn visits into calls and bookings. If your site is slow or thin, fix it before you pay for monthly local SEO, or the other work will struggle to show results.
Ask for a monthly report that lists the tasks done, the hours spent and the results. Check your Business Profile yourself for new posts, photos and review replies. Search for your business name on a few directories to see whether listings match. Make sure you own the profile, analytics and call tracking, so you can see the numbers without the agency.
Pay per lead can work when you know what each customer is worth and can track every call and form. The risk is arguing over which leads were real or came from SEO. Most businesses do better with a fixed monthly fee and a clear task list, then judge results by calls, bookings and direction requests after three to six months.
